Russian pianist Sofia Vasheruk, Prize Winner of many national and international piano competitions, performs an All-Russian piano recital that includes works by Shostakovich, Rachmaninoff & Prokofiev.

Sofia Vasheruk (1988) was born in Moscow into a family of musicians. With her innate vocation for music, Sofia began studying piano at the Gnessin State Musical College with Ada Traub at the age of 4, and continued at the Chopin Music College of Moscow with Ksenia Knorre.

Sofia is prize winner of many national and international piano competitions, such as the Queen Elisabeth Piano Competition in Brussels (semifinalist), the Sigsmund Thalberg International Piano Competition in Naples, the International Piano Competition in Enschede, and the André Dumortier International Piano Competition in Belgium where she obtained the Grand Prix and Special Awards. In 2013 she obtained the 3rd Prize at the Young Pianist Foundation Competition in Amsterdam with the performance of Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto under the direction of Stefan Asbury. In March 2017, Sofia made her successful debut at the Moscow Philharmonic Hall with the Russian National Orchestra under the direction of Vasily Sinaisky.

In 2008, she founded the Siestango Quartet which specializes in the performance of Astor Piazzolla’s work, a predecessor of Tango Nuevo ─ the artist who moved the tango from the cabaret to the world’s biggest concert venues. Apart from playing his music, the group is always eager to explore new music and create exclusive arrangements. The Siestango Quartet regularly performs in music festivals throughout Europe. In September 2015, Sofia became co-founder and artistic director of “Music Take In”, an International Music Foundation based in the Netherlands that aims to organize concerts where classical music performance is combined with theater.

From an early age, Sofia began interpreting works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin etc; however, both her character and her sensitivity as a performer are most faithfully reflected in the music of Rachmaninoff and Debussy. She recently recorded her first CD which pays a tribute to Claude Debussy in the centenary year commemoration of the composer’s death.

Sofia completed her Bachelor studies with Michail Markov at the ArtEZ Conservatory in Enschede (Netherlands) in 2012, and obtained her Master Degree at the same conservatory with the highest distinction in August 2014. Between 2012 and 2016 she studied at the ‘Scuola di Musica di Fiesole’ in Florence (Italy), where she completed her postgraduate studies under the tutelage of Elisso Virsaladze.
